Organization Overview: The National Black Leadership Commission on Health, formerly the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS (NBLCA), was founded in 1987 and is the nation’s oldest nonprofit organization with 36 years dedicated to educating, mobilizing, and empowering Black leaders to meet the challenge of fighting HIV/AIDS. Rebranded in 2019, it has evolved to become a national, comprehensive,advocacy, policy, and action organization that addresses multiple health disparities affecting the Black community, such as HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, prostate cancer, sickle cell, diabetes, and mental health.

Position Summary: The President & CEO will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for The National Black Leadership Commission on Health/Black Health, a national organization headquartered in New York City. Critical competencies for this role include leadership, fund development, strategic and systems level thinking, staff coaching, and public policy and health equity advocacy. Additionally, as a non-voting member of the Board of Directors, the President & CEO contributes strategic insights and alignment on organizational goals to drive the organization’s mission nationwide.

Key Responsibilities:

Execute the 2024-2027 long-range strategic plan to advance health equity and eliminate disparities in the Black community on a national scale.
Provide executive leadership and oversight of all organizational aspects, including finances, development, operations, programs, partnerships, and staff management.
Cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, funders, and media outlets across the nation.
Lead fund development efforts, creating and implementing a comprehensive strategy to secure funding from various sources to support the organization’s mission on a national level.
Champion health equity advocacy, engaging policymakers and advocating for policy changes nationwide to address health disparities.
Drive initiatives and interventions to enhance health outcomes and raise public awareness about health disparities on a national platform.
Function as a spokesperson, representing the organization in media and public forums at a national level.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in public policy, public health, business, health administration or related fields is required. A graduate degree is preferred.
A minimum of 10 years of recent experience in leadership roles is required, preferably in health equity.
Proven record in the competencies of leadership, executive presence, strategic thinking, effective    decision-making, as well as public policy and health equity advocacy.
Strong fund development, including successful fundraising, grant writing, and securing funding from diverse.
Exceptional coaching and staff development skills to foster a positive and high-performing organizational culture.
Profound understanding of the intersection of race, health, and social determinants of health and their impact on health equity and disparities in Black communities nationwide.
Excellent communication skills to convey complex health information to diverse audiences and stakeholders at a national level.
