A quarter of Americans with chronic hepatitis C are Black.
Hepatitis C is a liver disease that impacts African Americans at twice the rate of the general population. A quarter of the 3.5 million Americans with chronic hepatitis C are Black. While Black Americans over age 60 are 10-times more likely than other groups to have chronic hepatitis C, men over 50 are at the highest risk of infection within the community. Improved education and testing can improve outcomes and reduce the rate of disparity.
